UK property is doing better than expected amidst Brexit-related uncertainty, but some property is doing better than others. Alternatives are gaining popularity where they offer security of income. Security of income is also valued within the traditional sectors as is being ‘fit for purpose’ and an ability to adapt to a changing world.

The exchange-rate induced squeeze on real incomes is putting retail sales under pressure but, that aside, most of the economic indicators are surprisingly strong and property investment volumes have bounced back. Nonetheless, while both current economic indicators are better than might be expected and we retain confidence in the long-term economic outlook, political fragility only serves to emphasise the risks of downside volatility.
