The retail investment team advised Hammerson on the largest shopping centre deal of 2018, the sale of a 50% stake in Highcross shopping centre in Leicester. The team were appointed by Hammerson to find a new joint venture partner to acquire a 50% stake in the regional centre, during one of the most challenging retail markets in recent times. The deal which took 18 months to complete resulted in an exceptional outcome for the client as a 50% stake in the centre was sold to a Japanese bank, fronted by M&G, for £236 million and the price achieved was only 5% below the quoted valuation. This was a significant deal for the shopping centre market, Hammerson, and the CBRE team and demonstrates that prime assets in the right locations have remained resilient. The 110,000 sqm shopping centre attracts 18 million visitors a year and is anchored by John Lewis.
