It’s now two years since the EU referendum, and Brexit negotiations have moved on to the question of the UK’s future relationship with Europe. The issue of the land border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland has now become pivotal in the debate. In this further update of its advice to clients on Brexit, CBRE looks specifically at the Brexit issues facing Northern Ireland from the perspective of a real estate advisor. Against the backdrop of the 1998 ‘Good Friday’ Agreement and substantial cross-border commerce, this report argues that special arrangements will need to be made for Northern Ireland after Brexit, which could hand it a unique new opportunity relative to other parts of the UK.
