"I am based in the Birmingham Building Consultancy Department, a growing team of 16, where my day to day duties as a Graduate Surveyor, range from site inspections to interesting commercial buildings, (it’s always the vacant buildings that are a bit creepy!), survey work and CAD drawings. I interact with Clients and Contractors on a regular basis and assist with contract administration and project work. The CBRE social life is great with numerous networking events at new restaurants, Christmas and summer office parties- a good way of socialising with others from other departments. Before surveying, I was at Nottingham Trent University studying the surveying course and enjoying the student life!
"As a graduate, the support CBRE provide is never-ending with regular correspondence with graduates from other offices, training days (day out the office!) and cpd seminars. I really enjoy the fact that my job is not just office based, I get to go out into the real world and visit some spectacular sites and meet new people all the time. It is also a great feeling of achievement seeing your drawings of office fit-out designs come alive! For those starting out in the industry, I would recommend getting some experience at university on a sandwich placement if available. For those starting as a graduate/apprentice etc., tips would be to listen to your mentors/line managers, and don’t be afraid to ask questions! No matter how silly you think they may be, asking questions is the best way to learn."
