We need to reduce the amount of waste we generate. Currently our London offices are producing more than 434 tonnes of waste each year, and a great proportion of this could be recycled.
We have set ourselves a target of sending zero waste to landfill by 2010 (excluding hazardous waste) and using reused or recycled materials whenever possible.
What have we already achieved?
All the waste from our London offices is measured and a number of other measures are in place:
Glass, cans, plastics, fluorescent tubes, printer cartridges and batteries are all recycled.
Hazardous waste is kept to a minimum and where it is created, its disposal complies with regulations.
All paper purchased for our printers and faxes is recycled or from FSC certified sources. As is the paper we use in our bathrooms.
These initiatives are communicated to our people and our tenants to encourage their participation.
All the cutlery in our communal areas is bio-degradable.
What are our plans?
Our regional offices are working to achieve the same results as London. We also will strive to ensure:
During 2008 we will recycle more than 60% of our waste and reduce paper usage by at least 5% in our London offices.
All our fax machines will run electronic faxes.
Where we do produce paper literature it will be printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper using vegetable based inks.
