Employee Fundraising

In the UK, Europe and around the world many CBRE people are involved fundraising events and challenges of every description. We value these efforts highly and do much to facilitate and support them. This might mean allowing time off work for fundraising, making a financial contribution or donating resources.

In 2007 alone our people in the UK raised around £240,000.

CB Richard Ellis Woolly Hats Campaign Supports Save The Children

Hypothermia affects as many as half of all babies born in Tibet, making them highly susceptible to Pneumonia, which kills approximately 2 million children every year.  A woolly hat can mean the difference between life and death for a new born baby, and CBRE’s Asset Management teams have knitted a grand total of 500 to be delivered by Save the Children directly to the heads of newborn babies in Tibet, Kenya or Sierra Leone.

Alternate Marathon Challenge

The CBRE Alternate Marathon Challenge was a fundraising effort opened up to the whole Company in April 2007, and involved the gym facilities at Fitness First centres.

The Challenge involved over 260 of us and raised over £20,000 for a number of worthy charitable causes, including WaterAid.

Nepal Trust and Aspire Charities

In 2007, Simone Gribble of our Edinburgh office spent three months cycling from Edinburgh to Everest to raise money for The Nepal Trust and Aspire, a spinal injuries charity.  The 6835-mile journey covered difficult terrain across Europe and Central Asia.

With the support of the Charitable Trust and through independent fundraising, £9000 was raised for the two charities.

Women’s Network coordinating Christmas Gifts for charity

Each year our Women's Network supports a different cause and 2007 was the turn of the Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest children's Christmas project. Since 1990, the project has brought the joy of Christmas to more than 47 million boys and girls throughout the world.

Our Womens Network coordinated people from around the business to fill ordinary shoeboxes with small toys, school supplies, sweets, and other gifts for needy children around the world. A total of 107 shoeboxes were collected and dispatched to Operation Christmas Child.

Magnetic Pole Challenge

Charlotte Eddington, the Head of our Energy and Environment team, completed The Polar Race in 2007, a gruelling 350-mile team race across the Arctic.

Charlotte was part of the youngest female team ever to accomplish the race from the Canadian mainland to the 1996 location of the Magnetic North Pole, known as the “Toughest Race on Earth”.   Racing with team-mate Sarah Lucas, Charlotte’s trek raised over £12,000 for Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research.  The two women reached the finish line in an exceptional third place after seventeen days, four hours and 35 minutes, facing temperatures of minus 75 degrees, three hungry polar bear encounters and a 45-mile rubble field, whilst hauling their food and equipment on sledges behind them.
