  • Stalled site for over 12 months - £75 million ‘gap’ on the scheme
  • Our role was to help re-design the scheme, advise on funding and structuring mechanisms between three parties, economics scheme appraisal and business planning, and town planning and EIA consenting
  • 336,000 sq ft retail scheme, with 86,000 sq ft, new ‘theatre for Lancashire’ and 1,200 student bed ’Campus in the City’ for Lancaster University
  • Funding mix incorporating Arts Council England and Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership
  • Wider CBRE services introduced including CPO, retail letting agency and student residential

The Francis Crick Institute, London
Client: The Francis Crick Institute

  • 1 million sq ft world class research institution in central London
  • Initially instructed by University College London in 2007 to provide due diligence advice on their participation in the establishment of a new research institute with the Medical Research Council
  • Subsequently the instruction extended to advise a larger consortium that included Cancer Research UK and the Wellcome Trust on the establishment of a new Biomedical Research facility, the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation which is now known as the Francis Crick Institute
  • Practical completion was declared in September 2016 and CBRE remains instructed as a specialist advisor


The Mailbox, Birmingham
Client: Brockton Capital and Milligan Retail

  • Major refurbishment works to transform a prominent mixed use retail and leisure development in Birmingham city centre
  • Key elements of the proposals include a new 45,000 sq ft Harvey Nichols store, new cinema, roof enclosure and extension of offices
  • Strategic planning advice to prepare and submit a range of planning and other applications to secure the phased and ongoing renewal of the building
  • This also includes advising on implementation of a wide public realm strategy to enhance the legibility of the building within the city centre and to provide better linkages to Birmingham Gateway (New Street Station) which opening in September 2015

 



Marischal Square, Aberdeen
Client: Muse

  • 300,000 sq ft mixed use development with offices, retail, restaurants, hotel and basement car park
  • Role to secure planning and listed building consent for major commercial project in Aberdeen City Centre
  • Joint Muse/Aberdeen City Council project for the redevelopment of the former St Nicholas House site in Aberdeen
  • Consented in December 2014, the development will be a keystone of the Council’s City Centre Masterplan proposals



New Garden Square, Birmingham
Client: U+I Group Plc

  • Major Regeneration Scheme on the edge of Birmingham City Centre
  • Advising on a flexible outline planning permission to regenerate a prominent gateway site into the City
  • Scheme comprises up to 56,500 sq m of new office floorspace, together with up to 400 PRS apartments and ground floor leisure / F&B uses focussed around a major new central Garden Square
  • Range of complexities including listed buildings, adjacent conservation area and technical challenges such as transport and amenity considerations 
  • Working across CBRE’s Planning and Development, Land and EIA Teams

  • Mixed-use retail-led scheme including 28,000 sq ft of restaurant and leisure units, an 11 screen
  • cinema and multi-storey car park 
  • CBRE reinvigorated project post failed Heart of Tithebarn scheme
  • Innovative funding solution advised- ‘supported covenant option’ – City Council head lease and City Deal funds
  • Also advising Environmental Impact Assessment 


Royal Albert Dock, London
Client: ABP (London) Investment Ltd

  • Comprehensive development of Royal Albert Dock to include up to 3.3 million sq ft of commercial floor space, 166,000 sq ft of retail and leisure, 845 new homes and 180 serviced apartments
  • Refurbishment of two existing Grade II listed buildings
  • Establishing a new business hub in London focused on Far Eastern businesses
  • The opening up a previous dock site to the public with new retail and leisure uses and new public realm and open space



St. Enoch, Glasgow
Client: Sovereign Centros and Blackstone

  • Advising on leisure and retail redevelopment of circa 8,000 sq m and new flagship retail stores of circa 6,000 sq m
  • Planning Permission secured for 9 screen cinema with food associated food and drink and re-organised retail floorspace on former BHS site
  • High profile location with high design standards

  • Strategic and detailed planning advice to secure outline planning permission for 750 new homes together with other physical, community and green infrastructure
  • Complex scheme with various strands to the overall planning strategy
  • Joint working between CBRE Planning and Development, particularly in relation to the assessment of housing land supply and delivery
