There has never been such an exciting time to be part of the UK retail industry. Retail is now a truly global business and London and the UK continue to be seen as the place to be, whether you are an American, Asia-Pacific or European retail brand. The strength of the UK retail sector is also reflected in the revival of ‘Made in Britain’ and the success of British brands such as Burberry, Topshop, Cath Kidston and Mulberry together with many others, both on these shores and internationally.
London continues to be the key focus for fashion, luxury and lifestyle brands globally, with recent arrivals including Tom Ford’s first flagship store outside of America, J Crew’s first store in Europe and Breitling and Rag & Bone’s first UK stores. In addition, we have seen the arrival of Victoria’s Secret, which has opened flagship stores both in central London and across the UK.
Looking forward, prospects for the UK retail landscape look more positive than we have seen for some time. This is evidenced by the return of retail development which will deliver new high quality retail space over the next few years with major projects planned in Battersea, Bluewater, Bracknell, Bradford, Brent Cross, Croydon, Earls Court, Glasgow and Leeds, amongst others, providing retailers with high quality space in many of the UK’s leading retail destinations.
