After studying for an undergraduate degree in History of Art and Architectural History at the University of Edinburgh, I realised I wanted to enter a career in property so I completed a conversion course at Reading University.
When I joined CBRE two years ago I was lucky enough to be placed in the Shopping Centre Investment team, which I found both challenging and exciting. Despite working for such a large organisation it was great to be in a small, energetic team in a specialist area. I worked on a wide range of high profile projects including the acquisition of Bullring, Birmingham and the disposal of a portfolio of four shopping centres on behalf of the Mall Fund. At the moment, I am working in the Investment Valuation team which means I work on a broader range of assets including industrial and offices as well as retail. I have responsibility for the valuation of a specific patch as well as assisting on a number of funds. In addition to work, there are a large number of social events to get involved with including a companywide sports day and quiz night.
Working at CBRE has exceeded my expectations; I’ve had the opportunity to work on some great projects and learn from people at the top of their game. It’s an exciting business, where hard work is rewarded and support is there when you need it.
Don’t be put off if not all of your background is property specific; CBRE are looking for a wide range of people with different skills and experiences.
