Graduate stories

Sebastien Butcher

I made the decision to pursue a career in property after undertaking work experience for a surveying firm in Lyon during my undergraduate degree in European Studies.  After a Masters in Real Estate at Reading University I was offered an internship at CBRE before gaining a place on the graduate scheme.  CBRE was top of the list of companies I wanted to work for and I have not been disappointed.

I am currently in my first rotation in the Development and Regeneration department (soon to become the Government and Infrastructure department).   Since joining the team I have worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from advising Councils on town centre developments to the establishment of an innovative regeneration fund.  Every day is different and provides a new challenge.

As a graduate at CBRE you are given a lot of responsibility but at the same time colleagues are always happy to help and support you.  A major benefit of working for CBRE is having the opportunity to work on high-profile projects for large clients.   It is always exciting to read articles in the property press about projects you have been involved with!

My tip for future CBRE graduates would be to speak to as many people within the company and the property industry as you can.  Networking is a major part of the business and it will also help to better inform your career choices.
