I joined the CBRE Graduate Scheme in 2008, based in the Manchester office. I am currently part of the Property and Asset Management team and I have also completed a rotation in the Rating department.
I manage my own portfolio of properties for a diverse range of clients. I have direct access to my clients on a day to day basis and I am working on building close relationships with them. The great thing about being given real responsibility from an early stage in your career is that you feel ownership of what you do; this has helped me to learn about the business and develop my professional knowledge. That being said, help is never too far away and I have always found the people at CBRE will make time to help you out and answer any queries.
Property is a sociable profession - I have made new friends both within the firm and with the other Graduates in the area. I am a member of the RICS MatRICS social committee, something that CBRE actively encourages. We have even staged our own CBRE “Come Dine with Me”, which involved members of different teams across the office.
My tip for the application process would be to aware of current affairs and to have an opinion of what this means in a wider context, and although it might be easier said than done, relax and be yourself!
